The soft economy and its impact on the school building industry
A Joint CEFPI and ASBO International Webinar
Very few school districts in the nation can afford to escape the impact of the current soft economy. School budgets are in suspended animation, children's lunches are short to being rationed and school bus routes are being cut to save on increasing gas prices. In this E-Series, we examine our collective woes in a unique "cause and effect" format.
Our speakers, Edwin Van Ginkel and Brian Mee are leading authorities in fiscal and construction management areas within the school building industry. We will address five core issues:
- Home values: What impact do falling home values have on school districts?
- Inflation: With increasing costs for everything from food to gas, how is inflation affecting school districts?
- Taxes: How are changing tax bases in communities impacting the school building industry? Learn how a slump in tax revenue can be detrimental to school districts.
- State construction budgets: Which states are freezing construction budgets or limiting them?
- Declining enrollment: What is the direct impact on the school building industry?
Our first speaker, Edwin Van Ginkel is the Senior Development Manager of the LAUSD New School Construction Program. In this capacity, Edwin is responsible for the activities of Regional Development Managers and Development Team Managers that currently manage all pre-construction planning activities for over 75 new school projects. When finished in 2012, the $12.4 billion new school construction program will have completed 335 projects, including 132 new schools.
